This first look is a great setup for a story. The world Baker sets up is rich and well thought out. The concept, 100 years after immortality is discovered, doesn't feel too fantastical. The main character, Zıˇlán is fierce already, running her business of bringing people back to life. The first chapter shows her strong exterior, and the second shows her more vulnerable interior, and she is quickly a well-rounded character. Baker's lyrical prose is enthralling, starting in the prologue. Zıˇlán's dream sequence does so much work to tell us about her and world builds without it ever feeling like an info dump. I really enjoyed this first look and would love to keep reading!
