The Scarlet Alchemist immediately drew me in and left me wanting more. This book wastes no time and throws you into an alternate China where Alchemists have succeeded in developing an elixir of life. Zilan is a young Alchemist capable of raising the dead, a form of alchemy punishable by death. I love that Zilan is a biracial character, half Chinese and half Irish (echoing the author's own heritage). Zilan is relentless, fearless, and insecure. I can't wait to read her story and see where it goes!
