The opening lines of this first look are beautiful and poetic. I absolutely love the strength Zilan exudes from the very first chapter. This book definitely feels reminiscent of A Magic Steeped in Poison, which I really enjoyed. I'm down for a competition amongst smart, fierce young people. I really want to learn Zilan's motivations and watch how this story will unfold. I find the idea of resurrecting the dead as a side hustle super appealing.
I can see this calling out to fans of Asian mythology and YA fantasy. It seems like fans of Daughter of the Moon Goddess, A Magic Steeped in Poison, and A Clash of Steel would really enjoy this one.
