An intriguingly morbid opening

When a book opens with a corpse being dumped in front of our heroine, you know things are off to a good, if morbid, start. I like how we're introduced to Zilan's forbidden life alchemy through the cold, clinical perspective of her side business. She approaches resurrection as a means to survival, because compassion doesn't put food on the table.
