In “A Safe Place,” we are introduced to Emily- a woman desperate for a new start anywhere else and a businessman Scott Denny who is looking for the perfect person to help his wife and child with their home in France as a all aspects Live-In Assistant. It was as easy as getting on a plane to a different place, but is it ever that easy? As Emily falls into her new role as an all around assistance to Nina, Scott’s wife and daughter Aurelia, Emily is thrown into becoming the part of the perfect family being presented. Through different situations presented in this story when it comes to Scott, Nina & Aurelia, Emily is shown the buried secrets the whole family has tried to hide. What makes this story so captivating is that from page one to the end, there is a non stop sense of an eerie secret that is in desperate needs to be exposed. Getting three different perspectives shifting from past to present gives the reader the best understanding of why the decisions that have been made are part of the current reality. Until the last page, you are left guessing, trying to put all the puzzle pieces together to see why we go so far to protect the ones we love so much.
