I thoroughly enjoyed The Safe Place. It was an easy read with lovely imagery. The bright, beautiful setting was an interesting contrast with the rot happening within the family.
The main character Emily was relatable, as someone who feels out of place and really needs a friend, just someone to confide in.
The mystery itself is different, but it's the family drama that's the most compelling thing about this book. What's Scott's problem? And why does he have such intense negative feelings for his wife, who seems like a very nice (though a bit odd) person?
And what's the deal with their sickly daughter, why won't she talk?
I also liked how Emily dealt with her own personal issues throughout, I enjoyed her character growth.
I might have called this a beach read pick if we were able to go to the beaches right now! I don't know if I would call it a thriller or a mystery, which it seems to be marketed as. But overall this is a solid read.
