"Stupid, stupid, stupid, can't get anything right..."

Oh my word, The Safe Place starts like a train wreck. Emily (stupid, stupid, stupid) is flailing, in free fall, as her world falls apart. Scott is gouging himself with a pen, and making excuses about the blood stains and the bandage. Scott has a plan, and poor Emily has no idea. I'm incredibly intrigued although I suspect nothing will end well for these two. Downes presents just enough of the picture to make you want more, however painful that picture might be. Can't wait to see, though!
