The first look for The Safe Place begins with two very unlikable characters- a wealthy and sinister man full of secrets, and a down on her luck young adult having trouble finding her way (which I would have had empathy for if she had not been too selfish to remember her mother's birthday). Down the road, we know that she is roped into his web and cut off from society. Her father always says Emily won't become an adult unless she has to fend for herself- maybe this is her chance to learn to fend for herself and come out stronger.
