This book was great in theory. It had so many topics that still apply today, like sexism and racism. Our country hasn't learned much. Unfortunately, the way that it is written didn't pull me into the story. I found that I was forcing myself to sit down and read it. My mind wandered all over the place and it was a huge task to get any reading done.

In the end, there were many thought-provoking topics. Should we fight violence with violence? Non-violence doesn't seem to do anything. I also didn't read The Talented Ribkins and, apparently, this is the prequel to it. I realize that we didn't need to read it prior, but perhaps it would have helped me figure out what was happening. It felt a little convoluted to me.

The ending fell a little flat and I think there were too many characters for me to keep straight.

Overall, this one was not for me, but by the ratings on Goodreads there are a lot of people who enjoyed it.
