Honestly I made it about 70% through when this book seriously took a turn to The Equalizer. I mean full on Equalizer plot going on, which was extremely unexpected. However it added a whole new layer to this story and allowed it to create a whole new dynamic. It’s a historical fiction novel set in the 1920’s mainly. I absolutely loved each of the characters in this story even though some it was more of a love hate relationship. It’s a pretty quick read too and not overly detailed as to where you feel bogged down by descriptions. I enjoyed how it gave just enough back story and then skipped ahead to years later, but was able to help wrap up any loose ends. The writing was just past surface level so you had to kind of grasp what the message was. It’s full of crime, drama, some love, racism, racial stereotypes, and definitely an inner look into Black lives. I found this very engaging and I loved the three orphan boys from the very beginning. Highly recommend this one!⁣
