There were parts of this book that I really loved! Doris' story of growing up and escaping Europe during the war, her relationship with Jenny, her sister's granddaughter, and the many interactions along the way made for a great story. I enjoyed how the book was told through both Doris' current situation and flashbacks based on her address book, a though it were a looking glass into history. However, I was less than thrilled with Doris' love interest, Allan. I felt he was a very conceited person who was only there for Doris when it suited his own purposes. I could go into detail and list examples throughout the book but they would be considered spoilers. All in all, this dislike tempered what would have otherwise been a wonderful book.
