The opening of the first impression is moving but sad. I felt connected to Doris, though I am years younger than she is. I could feel the loneliness, the aches, the monotony. But as I continued reading, the story took shape and changed into something that could be hopeful. I can already tell this book will make me cry.

Doris uses her red address book to write stories from her past. These aren't the ramblings of an old woman on her way out; she's writing with such raw emotion and honesty. She's using her writings to help Jenny, her grandniece, overcome her own hardships in life. This is going to be a beautiful story.
