The Rancher's Baby by Maisey Yates is part of a mini series (Texas Cattleman's Club) written by various authors. The story opens at a funeral with the 'dead' person showing up. The first quarter of this book is spent with what has happened and why. The rest of the story concerns two friends who attended the wake. Knox and Selena have a friendship that developed while they were in college. Circumstances after Selena's grandfather's death changed the direction of their lives and relationship. Selena never explained why she made the choices she did to Knox. Now with them being thrown together they make the journey to understanding their backgrounds and choices bringing them closer.
My biggest problem with this book was that the beginning brings up questions that are never addressed or answered. If the first quarter of the storyline had been left out I would have enjoyed the book much better as the relationship between Knox and Selena is very interesting and well addressed by the author.
