I was looking forward to reading this book but the reality of it fell flat. The opening scene has a mystery to it and that is never resolved in this book. The trauma both the hero and heroine experienced in their lives should have made this a emotional read but I couldn't connect deeply with either character. The premise of this story is very similar to Linda Howard's book Sarah's Child and while that book provoked tears and anger this one did neither. The words were there and as I was reading them I kept asking myself why I could summon more of an emotional connection and I'm still not sure why. Selena is stunted from her childhood trauma but her attitude and behavior just annoyed me. Knox also suffered immensely and while I could understand his reactions they seemed to be reversed very quickly. It just didn't work for me.
