This was a deep and complex Harlequin Desire romance. I typically enjoy friends to lovers tropes, and this one was particularly satisfying. The characters were interesting and this book, although slim of pages, was richly plotted. The Rancher's Baby was enjoyable to read and definitely kept my interest.

This had the level of sizzle and heat that I would expect from the Desire line. Nothing was overly graphic or seemed misplaced or gratuitous, just realistic heat and attraction that had been denied for a long time being finally allowed to burn.

This cannot be read as a standalone. This book is the first of what promises to be an excellent series. However, the storyline that I was most hooked by, the "dead" ex-husband showing up to his own funeral, remains a point of mystery at the conclusion of this book. I found it unsatisfying and disappointing to come to the end of this book without having that shocking twist solved.
