Well... There are other words that can replace well...

I love romances. I mean, I really love romances. If you were to look at my nook or kindle you would see 90% of the books are romances. I wouldn't buy this book based off of the first 3 pages. It seems that the author has a special place for the phrase "well." In pages that I read she used "well," as a filler 5 times. I understand wanting to keep the dialogue of a book "natural" but there are other ways.
