We have the book description, so going in, you know what you're getting into. But then when on the very first page our main characters starts bemoaning her fear of getting pregnant and being left by men as a reason to avoid them....you can see the author's hand and it kind of ruins things a bit. In the modern day, with modern birth control, the whole thing seems like a strange, and bizarrely specific, thing to be afraid of. I'm not sure this opening chapter does a good job of creating a sympathetic main character.
