Sampler not enough

I feel like this is a book you can't gauge from a sampler. The first part is a history of the land and then you don't get too much after that. This is definitely a story that needs time to build a background and character introduction. And that is exactly the reason why I need more than just a sample to read. I think this book has the potential to be good but it's too hard to judge.

The set up is decent but it does feel a little generic. This happens sometimes with fantasy novels. With the beginning being the set up for the story, the main plot and excitement doesn't happen until the middle or end. It did start off strong with a huge twist of events which I did enjoy. I will probably pick this book up at some point but I'm not rushing for it at this moment.
