So, I didn't really enjoy this book as much as I had hoped I would enjoy it when I had first heard about it. The premise is good and the world building had the potential to be good but for me I felt that it was a little bland or maybe not described fully. I liked Cal and Shadow but I never really felt super attached to them or overly worried about their fates. However, they were still interesting to a point, hence the three stars instead of two. The story was good but I felt that it lacked an edge. I felt with the title having "assassin" in it, that the book would be darker or edgier with stakes that felt high. Moving on the positives, I really did enjoy some of the twists in the story and did like the characters to an extent. The cover is also absolutely gorgeous! I would recommend this to someone who would like to read a light fantasy. Overall I give this book 3/5 stars because it was okay but not amazing.
