YA fantasy is my jam. And I haven't read a Melissa de la Cruz in years. So, when this became an option, I jumped on it. Super glad I did too because this little adventure was a lot of fun.
Well, as much fun as a life-altering journey could be. I enjoyed getting to know our characters, Cal and Shadow. They were well written, fairly developed, and I'm curious to see where a second book will take them.

Being the Queen's assassin is what Cal knows. Taking on an apprentice is new territory, but something he's willing to do because, well, if he doesn't...is there even a story?

Lives line up, as they are wont to do in a novel, and the story unfolds as you get to learn the land, the assassin who protects it, and the people they encounter.

If you're in the market for a fantasy book with hope, love, adventure, and skill...this is for you.
