This excerpt was intriguing and I'm interested to see where the book (series, I'm sure) goes. There are several things that pull the reader in, including the vow and the time lapse - what happened during those 18 years? what does the blood vow include?
Also, the fantasy portion of the book is right up my alley. Why does this character have the ability to disappear into the shadows?
Overall, it seems consistent with De La Cruz's prior work and does leave me wanting to know what happens in the story. Some of it feels obvious (like we're clearly headed for a relationship between Shadow and the Holt son), but I'm okay with that in many instances as long as it feels genuine. Overall, I sincerely look forward to reading more.
