This book was absolutely amazing! It was extremely fast-paced and I completely adored every single second of it! The book stars an assassin and someone who longs to be his apprentice, as an unlikely attack forces them together. The characters were written amazingly, they were very three dimensional and well fleshed out. I also loved the development of their relationship was extremely believable and just seemed like the natural course. I loved their tension and the push and pull between the two. However, the real star of the novel was definitely Shadow. She was an incredible character, and while I did love her dynamic with Caledon, it was her, and her alone that pulled me in. Now, I have a bone to pick with the author over the ending, but it only makes me more excited for the next book! This book is great for anyone who loves a good immersive fantasy.
