I want to start this off by saying that I LOVE Melissa de la Cruz. Her Alex and Eliza trilogy is at the top of my all time favs list. However, I'm not sure that this one will be up there.

That doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy this book. I did. However, I feel like some things the story tried to make into a "big deal" just weren't - instead they were very obvious... such as who Shadow really is... But then other things that were made into a "big deal" were just... dropped...

The entire conspiracy that Shadow and Cal were there to solve was wrapped up in a couple of pages. Nothing was really explained, and there were moments that seemed to happen because the plot needed them to happen that way.

All that to say - I am fully aware that this is the first book in a series. So, perhaps some of my issues will be sorted as more books are released. I am planning on reading the rest of the series, so we'll see where it all ends up. If the story sounds intriguing to you, I would recommend it - but maybe just wait until it's complete before getting started.
