There are quire a few thing about this book I enjoyed. I actually didn't feel like I 100% knew what was happening in the story. I was on edge when Shadow and Caledon were at the foreign court. There were parts of the story that felt so new and exciting. However, there were some parts that kept me a little unsatisfied. The romance between the two felt pushed. I kind of liked it better when they were friendly and trying to figure out the assassination attempts or the one that would be coming for the princess. The two had a great rapport when it came to figuring each other out. Once the romance started, I disliked reading Shadow. She became a different version of the character. The plot twist also was something I saw coming a mile away. However, the actual plot of the book was the part I liked and I also enjoyed Caledon (minus the lovesick part). I would read the next book to see if the "evil" character gets what is coming to them, but Shadow isn't quite the pull for me.
