This story had a lot of potential, but fell short in every way. The major plot twist that is revealed in the last 50 pages, I had pin pointed in the first 50 pages. The romance intwined in the story felt forced, and just turned me off in every way. I never felt genuine chemistry between the characters and their strong emotions seemed to happen over night. There was a lot of 'she is mine' comments that made me cringe. The story lulled in the middle, as I felt that the villain our main characters were hunting, was incredibly obvious, yet took them forever to uncover. I'm bummed this wasn't a more enticing story. The best part of the book was the historical scrolls that were in the opening and sprinkled throughout the book that created the unique political tension between the different kingdoms and connections to magic. I loved these sections and this was really the only feature that hooked me into the story. So much potential, but missing the mark in my opinion.
