My first preview of this book was amazing! I really loved the background story of the history of the kingdom — Melissa de la Cruz did a fabulous job developing a deep history that really adds to the complexity of the book.
The main character Shadow is similar, yet so different from other protagonists in other adventure books. The way she’s been trained to be in tune with her surroundings is such an interesting touch: being able to smell fear, communicate with creatures around her, and the read her environment.
Opening the first few chapters with a close to death experience really draws me in. I need to know what happens next!
The cover does a beautiful job depicting the forever binding blood oath Cordyn Holt makes to Queen Lilianna.
