This looks like an exciting start to a new fantasy series. I'm not a huge fan of Maas, myself, but I do recognize that generally being compared to her is a strong mark in the book's favor. I also really like the set up of the apprentice situation and the potential romance that is referenced. I'm a little put of by the change from first to third person between POVs, but could see getting used to it.
