This book starts off with absolutely wonderful world-building and continues to fill in gaps throughout the book. It's a dual POV book, switching roughly every chapter between Leelo, a girl who lives on the island, and Jaren, an "outsider" boy. As the book goes on, you get to read a really sweet romance in the midst of ever increasing stakes. As everything Leelo believed in is overturned, they are still trying to find the best in things with eachother.
I was loving this book and probably 30 pages from the end, it looked as if there could be a chance for a sequel (I was hoping for that because I'd love to read a followup set in that world, it was wonderfully set up), but then the author closed all the loose ends in the last few pages. I would have preferred a second book going more in depth into the ending, but others may love having a stand-alone book.
