This book was very haunting and foreboding from the first chapter. This is the story of a teenager living in a bloodthirsty forest surrounded by a poisoned lake where outsiders are not allowed. This kept me guessing, why would people be here, are they really unable to leave? Why would they be so prejudiced against villagers not like them? Amidst this the people do unspeakable things to the outsiders attempting to protect themselves. While I was disturbed by this I was entranced wondering what would happen as a male outsider Jaren is helped by the main character Leeloo after he is injured. The romance was sweet between the two, almost as if they're fated to be together. I think the book ended the way it should and should leave the reader with no questions. I will need some recovery from this book as I can't imagine overcoming all of this. This is definitely a young adult romance and has a very good story to tell. Would recommend to those just looking for a good read.
