I think creepy forest might be my love language as I am very drawn to books and stories with creepy, foreboding forests. The idea of one of these creepy forests on an island surrounded by a poisonous lake was what sold me and I am so glad I picked this one up. Atlas this turned out to much more of a character driven story. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Leelo. The romance aspect was very sweet and didn’t overpower other aspects of the story. Overall I enjoyed the story and book very much. But I would have liked to learn more about the forest itself and singing/humming magic system. I also didn’t understand the time frame and seasons. The book opens just at the close of winter. And then all of the sudden, boom it’s summer and the weather is described as hot and stifling in a remote little hidden away shack. What happened to spring? It felt like the majority of the story took place with 2 months or ago, so we would just be beginning to enter true summer then right? But no, by the end the lake that surrounds the island is frozen again and we’re back to winter.
