I devoured this book. I fell in love with the characters that we are following: Leelo and Jaren. Both have such sweet and wonderful personalities and they really care for others. However, they have both been fed lies that they have to work through in order to trust each other. There were so many characters that I fell in love with: Tate (Leelo's younger brother), Sage (Leelo's cousin), and Lupin (an incantu living in the town).

The idea of the Wandering Forest on Endla is really fascinating. It is dark and gives me all sorts of haunting images of blood soaking into the ground and the forest moving and changing all the time. The poisonous lake is also terrifying! Outsiders are accidentally lured into the lake or across the ice in the winter and are met with a choice of how they die.

I liked following along in the story as you uncover the mysteries of Endla and realize some of the history has been rewritten. Leelo's family also has secrets that she uncovers. Sometimes families can make wrong decisions when they think they are protecting you.

This is a beautiful story in which the characters address the biases they have been fed, learn to trust others, and also finally set boundaries in order to protect themselves.
