The Poison Season is about a young girl named Leelo who lives in an enchanted island, where the water that surrounds them is full of magic and poison. Outsiders are kept out by the magic that surrounds the land, and the villagers all keep to their ways and traditions.
This book dives into what it means to be raised in an isolated and sometimes xenophobic society. Leelo especially as her brother is one of the few without magic, and later when she meets an outsider named Jaren. Her and her family create the most interesting dynamic and does really well in creating the central conflict.
The romance as well was really nice, as the couple were just the cutest and I honestly believe that the author had just the perfect blend of romance and plot.
Overall, this book was fun and the magic system was compelling and unique.
