The first thing I loved about this book was the cover. Charlie Bowater always does such amazing work!
But onto the book itself. Rutherford does such a wonderful job with world-building, and I loved diving into Leeloo's island with the fantastical woods surrounding it and all the creatures. I loved that this world revolves so much around song. This was such a unique idea, and I loved that even though I was reading fantasy, I felt like I was reading a new and fresh idea that hadn't really been done before.
Leeloo has to make decisions on whether to follow her island's rules and what to do about her brother, who lacks the same magic she does. I love these moral debates, and it made me really love Leeloo as a character. She was so relatable, and I loved seeing her internal struggles as she came to understand herself and discover herself.
