"The Poison Season", by Mara Rutherford, had me from the first word of the Prologue to the last word on page 35!
Thus far, the plot follows the lives of Sage, Leelo, Tate, Jaren, and their families who live on the isolated island of Endla. Endla is surrounded by a deadly magical forest and a poisonous lake. The inhabitants of this island are tasked with keeping outsiders from entering Endla. The few outsiders that had entered the island and caught, were given the choice of leaving by way of the forest of lake. No one has ever survived.
Ms. Rutherford has developed an intriguing plot, cast of characters and wonderous setting. She has a way with words that has the reader wanting more.
I'm looking forward to reading the remainder of this exciting novel!
