The author of THE POISON SEASON spells common nouns like forest with a capital letter - Forest, so readers know they are about to enter a different world. The eeriness continues to build with details of a lake so poisonous that wooden boats disintegrate before the occupants can cross and the "Forest" that replenishes a starving wolf overnight but demands sustenance in the future. And yet there are hints of normal civilization with young widows whose husbands died in hunting accidents and children who with nicknames like Tate, resulting from childhood taunts of looking like a potato. I have no idea where this plot is leading, but it could be interesting for fantasy fans.
