I enjoyed reading this First Look a lot more than I expected to. I'm not a huge fan of dreamy fantasies, but The Poison Season has some teeth. It will definitely appeal to readers of The Grace Year by Kim Liggett, as well as Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand and especially Elsewhere by Alexis Schaitkin. There was also a lot of world- and mythology-building in this 35-page excerpt. Reading the first three chapters left me wanting to know more about the Watchers, the incantus, the Wandering Forest, and especially the poisonous lake. I'm looking forward to reading further and discovering how Leelo's and Jaren's paths cross!
