I can easily see how this has been compared to the Grace Year, and now I'm hooked! So many questions!!! Why exactly are sacrifices needed? Why does Leelo's brother Tate need to leave? Why are people sacrificed either to the forest or the lake? Did Jaren lie to his family about drinking from the stream and actually drink from the poisoned lake? Was Jaren affected by Leelo spilling some of her blood as a sacrifice?
