The prologue is intriguing, it sets up the mysterious air around the Forest, but after that, my interest dropped. My two reasons for this are the characters and the world-building.
I didn't feel attached to the cast, which probably stems from my feeling that they don't seem compelling. For example, Leelo is sensitive and loving but these feel like her only traits, so her character feels limited.
I'm also not sold on the world-building. Sadly I was getting very nitpicky about the island's customs and I felt more frustrated than curious haha. I don't feel the urge to keep reading but I think this is fitting for people that mainly read YA.
