Leelo is a Watcher- her job is to watch over the forest of her community and to make sure no outsiders come into the forest. A forest that has a magical poisonous lake. Any outsider that comes to the village will be drowned in the poisonous lake. Leelo is worried that if her brother gets exiled, he may suffer the same fate if he tries to come back to the village. She sees the horror of the place, and even at the beginning of the story is trying to reconcile what she feels is right to what the traditional rules of the village is. The story really starts off with a lot of action- the characters are introduced in a way that was interesting, and I'm curious to see Leelo's journey as she determines what is important to her.
