I loved THE UNDOING so I was hopeful as I began to read this book. The description pulled me in and as an academic I thought I could potentially connect with the main character. The setting seemed to dominate at the outset with frequent, detailed description about the buildings, history of the buildings, purpose of them, criticism of them.....I got tired! Why do I need to know this much detail? The main character’s hangups then took center stage - a briefcase, the type of briefcase, use, lack of use, significance, meaning, oh my it just about did me in. I do not wish to cross paths with this incredibly self-focused human being. Way to much internal narrative such that the author interjects ( ) to add even more internal narrative to the internal narrative! I mean get_to_the_point. This story seems best suited for movie/TV than the written word. Pass.
