What a concept! A book within a book. However at one point about halfway through the novel I thought I already had a possible scenario of what was going to happen and I was right. It was still very enjoyable watching everything play out and to see if I was in fact, correct. Hot to start off, it becomes a slow burn for awhile before picking back up to a thrilling pace with a great finish that will surprise you if you didn’t already suspect what happens like I did.

Jacob Finch Bonner is starting another year teaching at a college writing course after once having a promising career. That slowly faded along with the accolades of his first book years ago. He’s been working on a book for years; not able to write anything of substance. This year’s students brings a young man by the name of Evan Parker. Evan is arrogant and doesn’t want to take any advice, already convinced where his novel is headed. He foresees it as a bestseller, on Oprah’s booklist and a movie being made; that’s why he’s not eager to share his writing even with Jake his teacher. Evan spills only the idea of the plot and Jake is pretty much in silent agreement that it will be a huge success.

Years go by and Jake hears nothing of Evan Parker or his book; curiosity leads him to look him up online only to find that not long after his class; Evan ended up passing away. Seeing no harm in using the unused plot as a basis to start his own novel, Jake writes a book that is a stellar success and everything that Evan said it would be. But someone out there knows that the idea was not originally Jake’s and begins messaging, then sending messages via Twitter. Then things really go wrong and Jake tries to find out who the accuser is behind the screen before things really go out of control.
