The Plot is a thriller, but in many ways it doesn't have the intensity of a thriller. And in the book, the book the Jacob Finch Bonner "writes" is described as having such an unheard of plot twist that it can't help but become a best seller. I can't say that the plot twist is so unique that I would never expected it. And while I figured it out relatively early on, I felt like the twist to The Plot was better than the plot to Crib, Jacob's book. I want to point out that figuring out the twist early didn't ruin the book for me, in fact it made it interesting in a different way as I waited for Jacob, who's really an arrogant, presumptuous jerk, to figure it out for himself. And naturally as a person who thinks more highly of himself than deserved it takes him quite a while and not in the way he expected. I don't know that I'd call this book compulsive, there are points where it can get a bit confusing as parts of the Crib are worked into The Plot, and Jacob is really not a likable character at all, but it does make the reader want to continue to find out if Jake ends up suffering any consequences for using the plot of a story told to him when he was still struggling to break through as an author.
