Interesting premise but disappointing in execution

The Plot would best be described as a slow-burn thriller, but it, unfortunately, isn't all that thrilling. I was really drawn in by the premise of the stolen story and mysterious threats and had high expectations for the novel. I don't think a thriller needs to be fast-paced or action-packed to be exciting or interesting, but this one was so slow and uneventful I found it to be quite boring. The "big reveal" was anything but, as it was obvious from the beginning of the story, but you had to wait for nearly 250 pages for the actual reveal. The excerpts from "Crib" within the novel were the best parts of this book, and I'd much rather be reading that than "The Plot." Ultimately, although I liked the idea of this story, the execution just didn't do it for me and left me feeling disappointed. With so many great books in the mystery and thriller genre, I don't think I'll be recommending this one.
