I was really looking forward to getting my hands on The Plot and was lucky enough to find an ARC in a LFL!
Sadly the book kind of fell short for me. I give it 3/5⭐️. However I have seen plenty of good reviews on this one so don’t let me deter you!
The book follows the journey of Jake, a college professor and novelist. One of his students pitches an amazing novel idea to him and suddenly passes away recently after. When Jake discovers this, he decides to use the students plot to write his own novel. He begins getting blackmail from an individual claiming he had plagiarized and published a story that was not his.
The story was definitely a slow burn. Throughout the book we get excerpts of the published book “Crib” that Jake had written. Honestly I would’ve probably enjoyed just reading a book using that actual plot more. In addition, the first half of the book talks about writing a lot. I think someone who is a writer or aspires to be one would enjoy this book! The book did have a pretty good twist at the end but it didn’t really feel suspenseful throughout and I did consider DNFing a few times.
