I have to say, the summary of the book hooked me way more than the first impression. Jake Bonner is a self-absorbed, depressed writer who is thoroughly wallowing in his self-pity. Not a lot to be excited about in that. However, the author's writing style is clear and descriptive without being excessive. I feel like even after 20 pages I know a lot about Jake and a lot about his struggles. That is definitely something I can appreciate.
