This is a wonderfully written historical fiction rich in history and storytelling. I have heard of mail order brides of the old west, but this storyline involves women from Korea finding marriage through pictures. These picture brides agree to leave their families and start a new life of prosperity in Hawaii. However, Willow and her friends are basically some of the first women who are victims of cat fishing and life is not what they were promised. I love how strong Willow is and how she does what she needs to in order to survive. It is nice that Willow’s friends Hongju and Songhwa are also involved in the story to show multiple points of view to what the women faced. The story is well written and gives a great narrative to just a small part of Korean history. A vibrant story that I would definitely recommend to fans of historical fiction and strong female characters. I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
