I have always found the idea of picture brides so fascinating. From girls in young America going west to wed prospectors to Russian girls coming to America to wed I have always wondered at the mindset and poor fortunes that would force a girl to marry an unknown man. This novel is the first I’ve heard of Korean girls traveling to Hawaii to marry men working in the sugarcane fields. I’m very curious to know what happens to the three girls in this story brave enough to make such a long trip to the unknown
