What caught my attention straight away was the writing, which is pretty typical of most of the historical fiction books I've read. To be honest, I find this sort of writing pretty dry, but it can be pulled off on occasion and I think this book does it well. It also deals with an interesting historical period and topic, so I would be interested to hear more about that.
