In many ways I can understand the Pachinko references, but unfortunately I think a lot of them fall in the problematic camp.
Honestly I think the comparison mainly comes because it’s about people from the same geographic location, secondly it’s historical fiction.
The problem I had was that the writing style wasn’t the same in the slightest-which is generally where I look for comparisons more than anything. To be clear what I read of this was good, it’s just not Pachinko.
