I don't normally like historical fiction at all, and while the plot synopsis of this didn't really do much to pique my interest, the writing in the first look was engaging enough that I might give this a try. It does seem like it'll be pretty depressing, though, and these days that's not really my favorite thing, but this certainly seems like a great historical novel.
